Valerie Miles

Having grown up in a Midlands Mining Village in England, Valerie was fascinated by Religion and Art from an early age. As a teenager she attended the Nottingham College of Art, but really found her niche as a student of Karo Bergmann in Dusseldorf where she studied Anthroposophical painting and drawing. In 1971 she moved to the Rudolf Steiner School Kings Langley where she was trained in Waldorf Education by Juliette and Vera Compton-Burnett. She visited the treasures of European Art with William Mann, and taught Art History in the ninth Grade for five years after that until it began to interfere with her work as a Class Teacher in 1976. Moving to Kelowna in Canada enabled her to continue her work as a class teacher and as Artistic Director of Studies at Western Canada Waldorf Teacher Training. She moved to Portland in Oregon, taking Classes at the Portland Waldorf School, Shining Star School and the Micha-el School as well as training teachers at the Micha-el Institute. In 2003 to 2005 she took a Masters in Anthroposophical Art Therapy at Tobias School of Art in East Grinstead UK and developed an Art Therapy Practice in Portland OR for several years before returning to Class Teaching. She retires from Class Teaching in 2014.
